What is an electric chain winch?

An electric chain winch is known as an integrated unit and is used in many industries around the world. These types of hoists are designed with low weight and compact sizes that can safely move 10000 kilograms.

Chained and wire-rope winches are different and must be used in different conditions which are the rate of usage, the installation place, and how they are used.

To compare the two mentioned above, the system components in wire-rope winches have the same functionality as the chained winches, however, in wire-rope winches, the wire-rope is rotated around a drum and in chained winches, the chain is led into the chain box. Chained winches move objects by pulling the chain around the gears in the gearbox and after the job is finished, the chain is placed inside a casing.

Chain winches with smaller dimensions and less weight are suitable for hoists jib and mono-rail hoists where the dead weight (winch weight) must be low.

Since the diameter of the drum over the diameter of the catch basin in wire-rope (which operates as the drum in winch chain winches) is bigger in chained winches, therefore the torque placed on the output shaft of the gearbox is bigger and therefore more powerful motor-gearbox set is required. This makes the size of wire rope winch bigger than chain winches. The figure below shows the exploded view of a Samsung winch.

In summary chain winches have the following advantages over the wire-rope winches

1
Lower maintenance
2
Lower price
3
Perform vertical motions without any deviation from the path
4
Higher durability compared to other winches
